This is, as shown, a rare and wonderful 1878 Victorian era 48 page cookbook titled "LAKESIDE COOKBOOK NUMBER 1 PRICE 10 CENTS DONNELLEY, GASSETTE & LOYD CORNER CLARK AND ADAMS STREET CHICAGO." Simply chock full of recipes and methods of cooking for the Victorian home! Even has POISON ANTIDOTES and miscellaneous household hits for cleaning etc... Condition is good for 130 years of age but has some loss as shown on the front and back covers with age soiling as well. Inside pages are great. As an added bonus there is a handwritten recipe for "LADY BALTIMORE CAKE" which uses Rosewater and "an Oven that is hotter than it would have to be for loaf cake." A great old Cookbook!

Black Letter Press (reprint of Lakeside Press Classic), Grand Rapids, MI, 1981. Hard Cover. Book Condition: As New. Reprint. This is a very nice reprint of a scarce and expensive Lakeside Classic. Gurdon Saltonstall Hubbard (1802 - 1886) was a figure in the Great Lakes fur trade and later a prominent Chicago resident. Except for a few early pages, the period covered by the "Autobiography" is his fur trade years (1818 - 1830). On the other hand, much of Miss McIlvine's Introduction pertains to his life in Chicago after 1830. xxvii (Introduction) + 182 pages ("Autobiography"). Bound in blue cloth with black lettering. The Lakeside Classic is listed in "Wright-Howes: The Final Edition.

It was published by Lakeside Press, Chicago in 1930. The volume is beautifully bound in a blue linen hardcover with gilt decoration in a seafaring motif. The shelfback is an off-white linen with gilt decoration and lettering. The cover shows only slight wear. Pages are clean and tightly bound. There is no marking or writing.
